Battle of Stalingrad, 23 August 1942–2 February 1943: 1,250,000–1,798,619 casualties
The Battle of Stalingrad saw Hitler's major push for power and dominance over the eastern front. This battle was marked one of the bloodiest battles of all time! Is marked terrible losses on both sides. The Russians alone had over a million men injured or killed. After Germany's failed attempts to defeat Moscow in the previous year the war had generally been progressing well for the German up until this point with successful goings in North Africa and Europe. This was the only battle thus far that Germany had faced any real fight back force and they were starting to crumble under the immense strength of the Russian forces, and once there Romanian and Italian allies had been eliminated, the Germans found themselves surrounded In Stalingrad, vulnerable and starving and living as best they can in the rubble of what used to be the city of Luftwaffe some people argue that the German's still haven't fully recovered from this horrible act of destruction and bloodshed.
